Darebin is a beautiful and unique place to live. Many residents of Darebin have lived in the area for many years and feel a commitment to it as their home. As an independent candidate, who has much experience in community campaigning, I can tap into local knowledge and represent the interests of the community to Council.
Darebin’s diversity, its beautiful places, and the transport and educational hubs we are so lucky to live near, have attracted people from all over Melbourne – and all over the world! Darebin is a place where you can walk past olive trees, trendy cafes, manicured lawns and Chinese broccoli growing in plastic pots all in the same five minute stroll. I want to stand up for this community and its interests, which won’t always align with the agenda of a political party.
The issues I want to fight for on Darebin Council are:
- Saving the Preston Market
- Pushing the council to take a stronger stance against the Victorian Activity Centres – retain the rights of residents and ensure that development is appropriate.
- Rectifying the funding imbalance between the northern and southern parts of Darebin – 50 metre pool for Reservoir!
- Defending council services in aged care and childcare
- Resisting rate increases, especially for elderly and low income residents, and questioning salary boosts for the highest-paid executives on council
- Protect the environmental quality of Edwards Lake
- Investigate air contamination from the VISY plant
- Representing the community’s voice on issues like climate change and Palestine
